U.S. Reps. Send Letter to Government Accountability Office on Lifeline National Verifier

Rep. Bobby L. Rush (D-Ill.) and colleagues urge the GAO to review the FCC's efforts to deploy the Lifeline National Verifier

The FCC has already delayed the implementation of the Verifier, citing issues that were entirely foreseeable and should have been addressed earlier. We are further troubled that the FCC's delays in implementing the Verifier are happening concurrently with the FCC efforts to drastically and arbitrarily scale back the Lifeline Program by cutting off service for over seven million Americans.

The Lifeline program is only available to eligible consumers who can provide documentation for eligibility. Only one Lifeline service is allowed per household regardless of a type of phone. To be qualified for Lifeline, you must be currently enrolled in a qualified public assistance program (i.e. Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as Food Stamps, Medicaid, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Federal Public Housing Assistance (FPHA), Veterans Pension and Survivors Benefit, etc.) or you can be qualified if your total annual household income is less than the qualified income guidelines.
