FAQs
In order to renew your California Lifeline benefit with TruConnect, you’ll need the following handy:
- CA Lifeline Personal Identification Number (PIN)
- Your Lifeline phone number
Here is a step-by-step guide to renew your Lifeline benefit with TruConnect.
Please note: If the California Lifeline Administrator was able to locate you in an eligibility database check – you are automatically renewed for the next year and there is nothing additional needed.
Step 1: The California Lifeline Administrator will automatically send you a renewal form in the mail 105 days prior to your anniversary date. The renewal form includes your CA Lifeline Personal Identification Number (PIN). Your PIN is located on the first page of your renewal form. Here’s a sample renewal form to reference.
*If you do not know your PIN, call the California Lifeline Administrator at (877) 858-7463 or text GETPIN from your Lifeline phone to 345345. Hours are Monday to Friday from 7 am to 7 pm.
Step 2: Renew by phone, online, on my.truconnect.com or the MyTruConnect app, or by mail. You’ll need your PIN.

B. Renew by Phone by calling the California Lifeline Administrator at (877) 858-7463 with your Lifeline phone and follow the automated voice prompts to complete your renewal.
- If you wish to renew through the phone, you must call in from your Lifeline phone. If you are calling from a non-Lifeline phone, you will not be able to complete the renewal process through the phone.

There are two ways to qualify for the California Lifeline Program: (1) Program-Based eligibility OR (2) Income-Based eligibility. If you still meet the eligibility guidelines, you may request to renew your Lifeline benefit.
- Program-Based Eligibility
You may qualify for the California Lifeline program if you or another person in your household is enrolled in any one of these qualifying public assistance programs:- Medi-Cal
- CalFresh, Food Stamps or Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
- Federal Public Housing Assistance (FPHA) or Section 8
- Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
- Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)
- National School Lunch Program (NSLP)
- Women, Infants and Children Program (WIC)
- Veterans and Survivors Pension Benefit Program
- Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids (CalWORKs), Stanislaus Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids (StanWORKs), Welfare-to-Work (WTW), or Greater Avenues for Independence (GAIN)
- Tribal TANF
- Bureau of Indian Affairs General Assistance
- Head Start Income Eligibility (Tribal Only)
- Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR)

Contact the California Lifeline Administrator at (866) 272-0357. You'll need to select your preferred language then press # to request a reprint of your form.
Heads Up! You only have 45-days from the date of the original form to return your completed form. Your form will be mailed to you only if it is within the 45 day period given to you to submit the form.

- By texting GETPIN from your Lifeline phone to 345345
If you lost, forgot, or did not receive your PIN by mail, you can get your PIN by calling the California Lifeline Administrator at (877) 858-7463 or texting GETPIN from your Lifeline phone to 345345. The CA Lifeline Administrator will text your PIN to your TruConnect Lifeline phone.
You'll be notified by mail, email, text, and in the MyTruConnect app, 90-days before your renewal date.

California Lifeline rules require you to renew your service by your annual anniversary date from when you first signed up for your Lifeline service.
Not sure of your Lifeline sign-up date? No problem. To get your renewal deadline, call the California Lifeline Administrator at (877) 858-7463.
Heads up! If you transferred your California Lifeline benefit to TruConnect, your annual deadline is based on your original benefit signup date, not your transfer date to TruConnect.

You will be notified in a letter in the mail confirming your renewal.
Visit California Lifeline's Check Your Status webpage to confirm your eligibility. You’ll need your Lifeline phone number and Personal Identification Number (PIN).
If your renewal application has been denied, you'll have a chance to correct it. To correct your renewal application, follow the instructions on the letter to submit any supporting documents.
If you believe you have been disqualified improperly, you may appeal. by calling the California Public Utility Commission Consumers Affairs Branch at (800) 649-7570.
If you do not successfully recertify within your renewal window, you will be de-enrolled from the program.
If you lose your discount, but still think you qualify, you can reapply.
