What Is Lifeline?

Lifeline is a government program focused on connecting qualified low-income customers by subsidizing phone service. TruConnect offers Lifeline in 37 states, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

To receive a free smartphone and monthly service, you must meet the income-based or program-based eligibility guidelines. The program is limited to one Lifeline benefit per household.

Qualifying programs include:

  • Medicaid / Medi-Cal
  • SNAP / CalFresh
  • Federal Public Housing Assistance or Section 8
  • Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
  • Veteran and Survivors Pension Benefit
  • Multiple Tribal Assistance Programs

What Is The ACP Benefit?

The FCC’s Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) is a new federal government program committed to bringing connectivity to low-income Americans. Qualifying households can get connected by answering a few questions and submitting your eligibility documents.

To receive a free smartphone and monthly service, you must meet the income-based or program-based eligibility guidelines. This includes qualifying programs for Lifeline, plus the following:

  • National School Lunch Program
  • Federal Pell Grant
  • WIC

The program is limited to one ACP benefit per household.

Renew Your Service

All participating Lifeline customers are required to renew their free government phone service once each year to avoid being disconnected. Lifeline is a non-transferrable government assistance program limited to one per household. Only eligible consumers may enroll. The program is limited to one discount per household.
